The Belfast Wall and Murals

I was quite shocked to see there remains a large wall separating the communities of Belfast. As our guide pointed out, not only is a sad commentary on the city, it necessitates the duplication of services such as community centres. Moreover, it just seems so very wrong in this day and age.  At least the residents are not shooting each other, although on Thursday there was rioting in the streets.

The wall also separates the artwork of the two communities, which is everywhere.  Here are just a few of the murals that have been painted over the years.
