Chicago!

I'm in Chicago for my first Board of Trustees meeting of the Adler School of Professional Psychology. www.adler.edu  I know...you are wondering what I'm doing on the Board of this Chicago based institution.

That will come later.  But for now a few images of this wonderful city...especially for architects.

The photo at the top is taken from my room on the 33rd floor of the Hotel 71 on East Wicker.  But down at street level I noticed a number of things as I walked around this afternoon especially elaborate markers denoting the different districts in the downtown.
For one thing, many of the streets have 'honorary' names.  I know we have done this in a few cases in Vancouver, but there's something quite nice about it.

Chicago has the Architecture Foundation in the heart of the city.  There I came across this large model of the downtown and displays for a new pier project.  I would love to see an urbanarium in Vancouver.

I was also struck by this poster which is designed to heighten awareness about pedestrian/auto accidents.  Since this is a topic of discussion in Vancouver, I thought others might like to see the poster.

The city is green...we all know that...but I was still surprised to see these solar powered garbage compactors around the downtown.  We installed one at SFU and it worked well.  I can see the advantages, although I still think the large underground containers similare to those in Netherlands and other European countries may ultimately make more sense.
Walking back to my hotel tonight I was very saddened to come across this memorial near my hotel in the heart of the downtown. I have not yet seen a lot of bicycles...there are few racks along the street, but perhaps away from the downtown they are more common.  More about this great city later...

By dividing up the party at several peoples houses you make it
easy on yourself. I've played Nancy Drew for years and even her saccharine personality is more 3D than Lindsay or 'Linds') as she calls herself. The game would begin with them watching the collapse of society and the outbreak of magic around the world.
